Not from Devon[edit]

I've removed the remarks about John being from Devon. His family historically came from Rockbeare in Devon, but John was born, lived most of his life and died in London, apart from some of his childhood spent in the Clifton area of Bristol. I hope to soon add some references from his Autobiography regarding this. Vt100 (talk) 10:58, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sections on poetry and translation of 1001 Nights[edit]

I have been "bold" and cut these whole! The first section is a crude 'cut-and-paste' - it is very obviously plagarised (from a possibly still copyright source) but more to the point it is written in a totally unencyclopedic style, and is riddled with format errors that render it gibberish on the screen. Before reinstatement it needs:

  1. To be rewritten - in encyclopedic style, and in the editor's "own words".
  2. To be completely reformatted - this includes the removal of the formatting inherited from the source from which it was "cut", and its replacing with the formatting of this site, which will render it readable.

The section on Payne's Arabian Nights translation is, apart from its faults of style and lack of suitable references, very partisan and controversial, and against the academic consensus. It drastically fails the tests of WP:OR WP:NPOV and is generally not in encyclopedic style. Again - a dispassionate and balanced treatment of the topic is definitely called for, but this will not do, even as an excuse, in the meantime. --Soundofmusicals (talk) 19:42, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
