Spaninsh-Moorish?[edit]

Is that just a confusing way of saying that he is half black? I don't know why guys like him try to hide it. I even have to doubt the Spanish-Morrish given his name. Your guess doesn't seem to be correct. As in most cases, specificity and proper sourcing helps. From the Hall and Oates biography Dangerous Dances, by Nick Tosches:

Sorry, but claiming "Moorish" heritage in the 21st century is as ridiculous as claiming Visigoth or Hunnish heritage. John Oates sings on most of Hall & Oates albums.[edit]

In response to someone changing the introductory paragraph to say the John Oates, "is an American musician and producer best known as the non-singing half of successful duo Hall & Oates." FYI: John Oates sings on all of Hall & Oates albums. Sometimes, he sings whole songs solo on their albums. Yes, they aren't the big ones, but he is almost always singing harmony or background too. His voice is distinctly different then Daryl Hall's. Now if this said "mustachioed-half", I would have been fine with it. ha ha. Birth name?[edit]

Is "John William Oates" really not his name anymore, as the article currently implies? Most people go by their first name and their last name, and that doesn't imply that they've entirely given up their middle name. He was born in 1948[edit]

According to the books of Joel Whitburn, John Oates is listed as being born in 1948. Several online sites also list his birth year as 1948. Caden ^cool 04:13, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adding keyboards to instruments list[edit]

In addition to background and lead vocals and guitar, Oates plays keyboards on many of their songs. Daryl Hall has keyboards along with guitar and vocals listed as instruments on his page, I think it should be the same for Oates because he is credited with playing keyboards on many songs and albums they did.

For instance, on Out of Touch which was a US #1 hit for them, and which has prominent synth lines throughout the song, Hall isn't even credited for any keyboard parts. Oates is. Johnny Rose 11 (talk) 08:53, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Discography[edit]

Since this would be a major change, I'd like to offer it up for discussion before doing anything. I don't think the whole Hall & Oates discography belongs in this article. I don't think this is normally done elsewhere in Wikipedia; it is entirely equivalent to having the entire Beatles discography in the article about each of the members. This article is about the person, and it certainly needs to include a lot about Hall & Oates, but it will be obvious to readers where they should look if they want complete information about the artistic output of the musical duo Hall & Oates.
