notable per awards (oh and Rukeyser show, he didn't have on any slouches), although the promotional nature of some of the references is a problem Pohick2 (talk) 18:49, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

i changed the jacket blurb references to the press release, which is a slight improvement. Pohick2 (talk) 16:14, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notability and sourcing[edit]

This article currently gives no indication of its subject's notability. Applicable notability criteria include general guidelines, biographical criteria, and WP:AUTHOR. Please note, awards alone, cited to the giver, the recipient, or a related entity, are insufficient. Their significance, as with most claims, should be supported by third party coverage. Below are some links that may lead to reliable third party sources to demonstrate either substantial coverage or sufficient indication that the subject is otherwise notable:

So, winning two awards from professional societies, having invented a whole arm of technical analysis (intermarket), having been on CNBC as the technical analyst for years, a regular speaker at industry conferences, etc. is not notable. A link to the award from the professional society is a secondary source in relation to Mr. Murphy. He did not send out the press release. Awards are a criteria that he meets. The awards need not have been covered by major news groups, although I know some have been on business TV. That is not something that can be linked to however, unless there was an article written as well. There are few technical analysts more noteable than Mr. Murphy, and the reasons are noted here.Sposer (talk) 14:10, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
