His brother's name inspired Tolkein[edit]

I just heard the "No Such thing as a fish" podcast; according to that John G.'s brother was Samuel Gamgee - who supplied medical material during WW 1. Tolkien used his name as a basis for Samwise Gamgee in LOTR. He also married Samwise to Dot Cotton; named after another type of material. Interesting enough for the article?
