Hold assessment for day or two[edit]

There is some outdated info in this article now... I'll update with references and then it will be worth an assessment. --Gene Hobbs (talk) 16:08, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies if I have put bad info down, Gene. As ever, your diligence is hugely appreciated. I was perhaps too hasty trying to 'cure' the redlinks. --Legis (talk - contribs) 16:14, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, no, this is good. Casey is now the CEO Halcyon, world record is now traverse with Casey. (ref on WKPP page) I'll get back to it tonight. Thanks! --Gene Hobbs (talk) 16:18, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We need to take care that the article doesn't fall foul of the new sticky prod for unreferenced BLPs. I've droppped the Tallahassee Democrat ref from the GUE article in, so that any eager new page patrollers don't get it deleted before Gene can work his magic. --RexxS (talk) 16:46, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is funny. For a pretty famous guy (within the diving community) I found it quite difficult to track down biographical information on him. Thanks again. --Legis (talk - contribs) 18:01, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am going through his CV now and just asked a bunch of follow-up questions on things not covered by his CV. I also asked if I could use some info that technically I can't provide without permission (date of birth) since I am the team medical officer. I should have another draft up in a few hours. --Gene Hobbs (talk) 18:24, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gene, just a suggestion, but if you are in touch with him, perhaps he has a photo he would give us permission to use? --Legis (talk - contribs) 00:53, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Asked for his Facebook profile pic. I have a couple of photos of him that I use in talks but they all have me doing doppler as well so I did not think those were the best. I am in a class without internet access all day tomorrow but should have some stuff to expand with tomorrow. RexxS, if you want to go ahead and use the stuff below, I can work around that. I have been trying to fill in the education and general history tonight so that was not really what I was looking to expand this time anyway. Thanks guys. --Gene Hobbs (talk) 04:37, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Still working... Talk about a trip down memory lane... Anyway, I have added more tonight but still don't feel ready to post the next draft. Just did not want to leave you guys hanging. Thanks! --Gene Hobbs (talk) 03:32, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The other things to read for background are the rest of the sources at Global Underwater Explorers#References. JJ is notable for his work in promoting Hogarthian gear configuration:

  • Jablonski, Jarrod. "The Hogarthian Gear Configuration". Jeff Bentley.

There's a mini-bio at:

Also this interview is worth a read:

Coincidentally, both Jeff Bentley and David Strike are my fellow NEDs from the old SCUBA-L mailing lists – in the days when a stroke was not just a swimming style, and a long hose was for putting out fires :) --RexxS (talk) 21:16, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Photo[edit]

Still needs work but moving along... I have a few pictures from him but no time today. I'll get back to it soon. Thanks! --Gene Hobbs (talk) 16:07, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Gene. As ever, I start something rubbish and then leave you with all the hard work...! --Legis (talk - contribs) 21:00, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
