Pic?[edit]

George Bush[edit]

Can anyone verify that he's really not a PA boy anymore? Where was this information taken from? I can't find a mention of it on the Bloodhound Gang's official site, but then, I guess they wouldn't necessarily deem it newsworthy. Has anyone heard more about this?. Some month's ago he mentioned it towards the end of an 1 hour long Bloodhound Gang TV-special on MTV Germany. Since then he has been a -kind of like- regular guest to shows of MTV Germany (which is based in Berlin), e.g. he served Mirjam Weichselbraun as a sidekick for one TRL show. The official German Bloodhound Gang website (http://www.bloodhoundgang.de/) links to a web blog (http://www.vertigo.fm/_wordpress/?cat=5) were Evil Jared himself blogs a bit, telling of how he's doin' in Berlin.--BSI 00:48, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Today marks the two year anniversary of my moving to out of the country to escape the tyranny of the Bush regime as well as, not coincidentally, the seven year anniversary of the date the terrorists bitch-slapped George W. right in his twin towers. To herald the event, and because I couldn't get my shit together this week, I will be throwing an epoch-shattering blowout on the Party Bus next Thursday, September 18, at Köpenicker Strasse 48/49 in Berlin. If I manage to survive happy hour (9:00 – 10:00) I'll be serving up specials on the various drinks that have collectively eroded my liver to the consistency of an apricot pit the rest of the night. To anyone that can make it to Europe's capital city, come join me and get as much cirrhosis as I have!

What to call Philadelphia[edit]

I changed the sentence "Hasselhoff was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania" to "Hasselhoff was born in Philadelphia", noting that this is the style called for by Wikipedia:naming conventions (geographical names).

Another editor reverted that change, saying that Wikipedia:NCGN relates only to the naming of articles about cities, not to references to cities in other articles. But that isn't correct; its lead paragraph begins, "This page describes conventions for determining the titles of Wikipedia articles on places and for the use of place names in Wikipedia articles." (Emphasis mine)

That editor also pointed out that my edit summary mistakenly called Wikipedia:NCGN a "policy". My bad; it isn't a policy, but merely a guideline. Nevertheless, I propose we follow this guideline.

Associated Press writers follow the AP Stylebook, so when they refer to any of thirty or so large American cities with distinctive names (including Philadelphia), they use the city name alone, rather than the form "city, state". Wikipedia:NCGN, citing the AP Stylebook, encourages Wikipedia contributors to do likewise.

Calling Philadelphia "Philadelphia", rather than "Philadelphia, Pennsylvania", is preferable here for the same reason it's preferable on any Wikipedia page, and for the same reason it's required in an AP article. Most of the people who come here to read about Jared Hasselhoff know what state Philadelphia is in. Some don't, but of those, not all know what Pennsylvania is in the first place. All that information is available as needed on the linked "Philadelphia" article. It doesn't have much to do with Jared Hasselhoff. TypoBoy (talk) 04:37, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm seeing some geographical detail of actual relevance beyond the simple biographical facts. Several aspects of Bloodhound Gang involve PA but not just Philly itself (other band-members' origin, some production/studio features that seem key to their early releases, current home base). I don't see the harm in saying the state, and it helps possibly see that as a more coherent local context. DMacks (talk) 03:21, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Philadelphia is the only U.S. location currently mentioned in the article. That reference should follow Wikipedia guidelines. If more information is added, as you and I agree it should, the further references to Pennsylvania locations will only make it clearer which "Philadelphia" Jared was born in.
