I've added the Wikiproject Devon tag above. It's interesting to note the lack of discussion on this page, and it has been a sandbox for a lot of people, the net result of which is that the article is still small, and has no sources. Stevebritgimp 02:19, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I curtailed some of the original stuff written on this page late last year. As an ex resident of Plymouth I found it snidey, not to mention borderline offensive and suspected that it was written by a student who might have been roughed up by one of locals outside CUBA one night. I think some of the negative 'chav' stuff should be taken off too, after all no-one writes about other city dialects in such a detrimental fashion. I tend to agree, but have tried to steer a middle ground. Hopefully some kind of consensus can appear over time, and with more information the sniping will stop.Stevebritgimp 14:23, 8 February 2007 (UTC) (forgot)[reply]

I'd leave it as it is. It doesn't seem to be saying that janners are chavs, but that the term 'janner' can be used in a perjorative way to describe local Plymouthians. MattB2
I wouldn't disagree. However, the bit on the "Janner=chav" variant is currently unsourced, so is fair game for removal anyway. Gordonofcartoon 19:02, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced[edit]

Janner can be used as a prefix for local facilities such as Jannerdrome[citation needed] to refer to Plymouth's local airport at Roborough, or the Jannermead to refer to the Mannamead pub.

Quite likely. But I can't find any verification for "Jannerdrome" (including NewsBank and the WMN) and just a couple of MySpace references to "Jannermead". Gordonofcartoon 12:53, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - I couldn't find anything on Whiteworks addition of Jannerdrome, which he/she has added to the main Plymouth page, this page and the Plymouth City Airport page. Also as a local I have NEVER heard this usage in 30 years. Stevebritgimp 17:59, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Broken Link[edit]
