This article needs to be updated

Much has happened in the asbestos compenstation story since the last update. It needs to be updated with more information. Also, while the asbestos compensation story should rightly dominate, James Hardie Industries is over 100 years old. Isn't there more to their story than the last 10 years? Perhaps there should be two articles one on the company in general and one focusing on the asbestos compensation story?

I'm researching James Hardie at the moment, and although there should be more information about the company history, I think you will have a hard time finding it. Much of the discourse surrounding this company in recent times is about its asbestos liability (especially in Australia). Alot of the most useful information about James Hardie really comes from itself, which is a shame, because we can't consider it an unbiased source.

We also need to remove the suggestion it moved overseas to avoid its asbestos liability - this can't be substantiated. What can be substantiated is that alot of campaigning by the NSW government and union movement took place urging them to fund asbestos liabilities, and that the original fund for asbestos liability was assessed to be inadequate by its fund managers.

It has been listed on the ASX for about 50 years, surely something can be found about it there? For example, it claims to have pioneered the development of cellulose based fibre cement products in the 1980s - perhaps something could be found around this? --211.30.42.99 10:17, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

James Hardie - The toughest Job You'll Ever Love to Hate

After the recent housing down turn Hardie has Shut Down it's Blandon, Penn plant and laid-off 21 employees in Reno, NV.

Known as the land of turn-over by some, James Hardie exemplifies lean manufacturing, making multi-tasking common among it's employees. It maintains a high level of PR and HR activities in the States possibly due to it's poor reputation in Europe and Australia.

After working there 2.5 years one finds that you are a "long-timer". Once laid-off, one finds you were cannon fodder.Blues 127 19:21, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Neutrality and Citations

The last sentence (or "fragment") in the "History" section seems to dispute neutrality in that there is no proof that James Hardie voted to relocate "as to separate themselves from the asbestos controversy". I know that this is an emotional issue for many people, but please, for the sake of the wikipedia entry and for the sanctity of the story itself, ensure future entries are neutral. The truth of the story is enough-the emotional stuff isn't needed here. Echarpe (talk) 14:26, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
