Finger/Toe Jam[edit]

It would be nice to have a page that talks about jamming your finger or toe. I don't mean the toe jam you get when you don't wash, i mean the toe and finger jam you get when a ball hits them on their points. I just jammed my finger yesturday playing soccer and wondered if wiki had a page explaining what happened.--Kledsky 19:19, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

With no real evidence that i can recall, i expect a stubbed toe to be a momentarily intense discomfort, with at worst a bruise remaining, and a finger or toe jam to be a connective tissue injury, require time for healing, and perhaps deserve physical therapy.

The third kind of wikt:toe jam is wedging the front end of your rock-climbing-shoe-shod foot into a crack where you can't put your weight directly onto the bottom surfaces of your toes or the ball of your foot, and standing sort of supported by the sides of the widest part of that foot (while you reposition your hands and other foot in turn as you climb higher). And in climbing there are also such things as a finger jam, pinkie jam, and thumb-down jam (all of which could all be described as "finger jams" in a wider climbing sense of that term).

Type of spam[edit]

The book E-mail: Communicate Effectively, First Edition ISBN 978-0-13-041817-3 by Verna Terminello & Marcia G. Reed uses "jam" to mean unwanted jokes, recipes, etc. sent by someone you know (i.e. a type of spam). I can't find any other sources of this use. -- Madda 15:39, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removed: The Office and Goitre[edit]

I just removed two entries, my explanations:

Jim and Pam in The Office - this is a page disambiguating encyclopedic articles for different meanings of the words (or three letters) jam, not for listing use in popular culture. I don't predict many people typing in jam and expecting to learn about the terms use in The Office.
Goitre, a spoof version - I don't get this at all. A spoof of Jam (TV series)? That's certainly not what Goitre links to. Again, this page if for disambiguation of the term Jam.

I have just removed Goitre again. Having looked further into the issue, I see that Goitre was indeed a spoof version of the TV series Jam, as mentioned in Jam (TV series). However, this still does not warrant a mention on this disambiguation page.

As you will see at Wikipedia:Disambiguation, ...disambiguations are paths leading to different topic pages that share essentially the same term in their title. Therefore it is sensible to point at Jam (TV series), but not at Goitre. No-one searching for Goitre (the spoof) would search for Jam.

This is especially compounded by the fact that the article Goitre is about the medical term (rather than the spoof) and has no relation to the word jam. I hope this explains the action I have taken. →Ollie (talk • contribs) 19:08, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose – this seems like a clear primary topic. Jam has nothing to do with firearms, but is a common verb applicable to all sort of things, not just guns, not just machinery. Again, not sure what problem we are solving – fruit preserve is certainly the first thing people think about when they hear "jam", and the verb "jam" probably second; however, there is no obvious encyclopedic topic connected with the verb, so why would anyone search for that?
