Consistency needed[edit]

I see that the article variously refers to the place as a "town", a "city", and a "village" or "small village". Maproom (talk) 17:25, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Original research[edit]

The section "Origin of the city's name" seems to contain a fair amount of original research. @JiminiVecchio:

Possibly the oldest legend concerns a letter that Pliny the Younger... sounds like research in progress, and does not seem to be supported by a source.
A quick search of his letters which have been indexed on the internet did not find any references to prisons for women. is not in an encyclopedic tone, and really a source who did such a search should be cited.
That is one of the problems with legends. again is analytical rather than encyclopedic in tone.
None of these similar legends are supported by any documentation or artifacts on the island. nor is there any cited source that even says that anyone believes this legand. No doubty proplr fo, but we need a source.
There is word of another legend... this whole paragraph is uncited, even to the existence of such a legand.
A more interesting possible origin relates to a figure named Euphemius who says it is more interesting?
Legend has it that this tonnara was given the Arabic name for “mouth” or “entrance” which is pronounced as one would pronounce an English word written as “fim”. again this is unsourced speculation. Who says that there is such a legend of the souAll of this neeed better sourcrce of the name? Who even says the words are similar in sound?

While I enjoyed browsing this section, I did find it made my head swim a bit. If it could be organized into specific origin topics and then the tone made more informative, rather than a chapter from a book about to be published on the subject, I think it would be helpful to the readers. Also, sources of each legend, in turn, would be most helpful. The author commenting on their own research process isn't particularly necessary, just presenting the results is more appropriate for an encyclopedia. An essay isn't an encyclopedia article, and that is more the tone I am reading, here. I do enjoy the information, however. Deliusfan (talk) 00:42, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
