Worth pointing out the contrast with the later (Norman? bastard-feudal??) principle that "none need answer for life or lands but in the King's court"?

Separate point: at present focus shifts rather fast from the period that is primarily relevant - Anglo-Saxon before the century of the Conquest - to later modifications and interpretations (Edward the Confessor, Braxton).

Also perhaps worth sprinkling in more dates? for those of us who are, uh, slightly vague on, eg, Edward the Confessor?
