6th of what?[edit]

"Alexander Forrester, 6th of Corstorphine" 6th of what? Searching around the web I see "6th of Corstorphine", "6th Lord of Corstorphine", "6th Laird of Corstorphine", and even "4th of Corstorphine". There's "Lord" and "Baron" in play here at least. Any possibility of adding a clarifying word or two to this inbred line? Shenme (talk) 02:49, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Shenme:. Yes, at first sight it looks as though a noun is missing but it is the correct format as in medieval and early modern Scotland land entitlement often came without any ennoblement and thus no aristocratic title. I don't have a citation but this is the format used in standard histories and now in Wikipedia articles eg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_Lockhart where you see '2nd of Lee' and '2nd of Carnwarth' and so on.
