Edits[edit]

1. Included recording date (July 1952), and moved the previous Reference 1 to source the date.

2. Jimmy Boyd turned 13 on 9 Jan 1952, thus the song was recorded when he was 13. Added this to intro. Guyburns (talk) 14:41, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Catholic objection to kissing at Christmas? The article says: "Boyd's record was condemned by the Roman Catholic Church in Boston when it was released on the grounds that it mixed kissing with Christmas, ignoring the fact that mistletoe, under which many couples kiss, is traditionally hung in many homes during the Christmas season."

This is absurd. I think it far more likely the objection (if there ever really was one) was over the implication that the married woman was kissing Santa Claus, to whom she was not married. Of course the joke is that "Santa Claus" is in fact her husband. Catholics of course have no objection to married couples kissing during Christmas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.255.194.210 (talk) 18:42, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore, the evidence that the song was "condemned by the Roman Catholic Church in Boston" seems pretty thin and based on hearsay. The source cited is a Chicago Tribune article from 2019: "Nelson, Valerie J. (March 11, 2009). "Jimmy Boyd: 1939-2009". Chicago Tribune. Retrieved November 16, 2019." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.88.151.224 (talk) 23:21, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Chicago Tribune article cited gives no evidence and cites no sources. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2009-03-11-0903100604-story.html Sounds like heresay to me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.88.151.224 (talk) 23:28, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
