Cartoon Cartoons[edit]

It is not one by they own admission of calling it a "Toonami Original Series" rather then a Cartoon Cartoon. Also I believe most of the Cartoon Cartoons made were done mostly by Cartoon Network Studios or local animation studios. Immortal Grand Prix obviously has a major and well-known anime studio, who equal credit is given to, Production I.G, helping to produce this show almost entirely overseas. It is also not perhaps solely an original Cartoon Network idea as Production I.G is said to have first approached Cartoon Network with the "IGPX" concept back around 2003. At first Cartoon Network was hesitant about such a series, so instead of a full series opted for the mircoseries whose major success and popularity spurred Cartoon Network to go back to Production I.G asking for a longer series with some changes to the general idea of the IGPX. This of course eventually lead to the anime television series currently airing on Cartoon Network, which is very different then the microseries. These differences from the original microseries might be from ideas offered to Production I.G from Cartoon Network hence how in part it might have become a Toonami Original Series by both Production I.G and Cartoon Network rather then a Cartoon Cartoon. Relation between the Miniseries and TV series[edit]

There is an interview at Animenation[1] that mentions how the TV series evolved from the miniseries/pilot episodes. They kept the competition, battle aspect and the characters, but changed the mechs so they could race as well. Ana 20:15, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, it is Kari Wahlgren, who is also the voice of the team manager Michiru Satomi in Immortal Grand Prix TV Series and interestingly also Liz Ricarro in the Immortal Grand Prix Microseries. Ryokosha 05:31, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Season 2[edit]

I am curious why the Season 2 Episode titles were taken down? I know they haven't aired on Cartoon Network yet but they are known titles and I believe have aired on Japan, so why are they down at this time? Ryokosha 21:03, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gunnm's Motorball possible influence[edit]

Hi, i just got the IGPX ps2 game today, don't know about the series, but to me this game IGPX is a copy of the [Motorball] (Cobra's Rugball inspired) racesport that can be found in the Gunnm (aka Battle Angel Alita in your country) manga. Don't you think? It is almsot the same thing except there is no ball. Even the fall of characters and their running style seems to be inspired by Yukito Kishiro's work. While the two are similar, the original concept of IGPX (the microseries) did not include any racing aspect, as far as I know. There have been many examples of mech combat in anime, so while the additional racing aspect could have been influenced by Battle Angel, it's just as likely that the CN suits wanted a NASCAR atmosphere to add to the show. Animation style differences[edit]

Does anyone know about the reasons for the difference in animation styles? I've only seen stills so far here and on ProductionIG's website. One looks 2-D while the other (the longer version?) looks 3-D. Is that one 100% 3-D or is it a mixture? And could the reasoning behind this be added. Was it that Cartoon Network felt 2-D was old fashioned? Was it marketing? Was it just to get the show done before a certain deadline? I've read of some series in the past, the Robotech Macross for example, had used different people or studios? to do the drawing resulting in one episode looking slightly different from the next due to time constraints. As an anime fan and not having seen either I am also interested in other differences. The two pics at the top of the article, the top one is darker, the bottom one is all bright and sunny. Is this the general mood of both in their entireties? Of course it is 2 different shows. I probably should have stuck to my question on anime. But, apparently Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z and GT are different shows as well, but they have the same animation style. And the three shows that ended up in the US as Robotech, the variations there are not as drastic as the variations between these two. So they being two different shows in itself isn't reason enough for the variations in animation style. Maybe I should just scour fan pages instead. Ah, I see your point. The fact is, IGPX Micro, the first series, was pitched to CN as is. It's in essense a pilot, but split into five episodes.
CN later felt like going in a different direction with the series when they later went to IG, and the two worked out a completely different show. DBZ and DBGT are different shows that follow each other up: IGPX and IGPX micro have nothing in common other than the name and the production company. OVA?[edit]

There is a strangely small addition to the article describing the decline in popularity. Although this is very true, it says an OVA is set for 2009. Could someone confirm this? If not true, it shouldn't be in the article. XFactorInfinity 03:58, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Split off characters section?[edit]
