Station name[edit]

According to Butt, the station was always named "Hull Cannon Street", being opened on 27 July 1885 and closed 14 July 1924, with the trains then being diverted to Hull Paragon. (Butt, R. V. J. (October 1995). The Directory of Railway Stations: details every public and private passenger station, halt, platform and stopping place, past and present (1st ed.). Sparkford: Patrick Stephens Ltd. p. 125. ISBN 978-1-85260-508-7. OCLC 60251199. OL 11956311M.). Butt lists just two stations bearing the name "Cannon Street", without further qualification: these are both in London - the terminus (originally SER), and the through station on the District/Circle line. I've just been discussing this at User_talk:SilasW#Cannon_street - locally I'm fairly sure the name was just "Cannon street" - however I've promised to check some old timetables for the railway - to see what they used.

I'm not sure which takes precedence here if common vs official use is different.Shortfatlad (talk) 21:37, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
