Chinglish? Or simply not enough attention?[edit]

Can someone kindly explain what "Huizhou university was established in 1921 [...] In 2000 [it] was granted university status [...] In 2011, [it] celebrates its 65th anniversary" mean?

If it was founded in 1921, it is 90 years old in 2011. If it became a university onyl in 2000, it is 11 years old as a university. None of these is 65.

Was it closed down for full 25 years during that monstrous event called Cultural Revolution so it is 90-25=65? Most other universities were only closed for 5-10 years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.200.65.124 (talk) 08:45, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am considering adding this information in the "Academics" section, at the end of the first paragraph: The university also has an agreement with the XDK Group to "manufacture,study & research" togetherCite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page)..

It is true that the link doesn't contain much information; probably best to forget it. I am wondering, then, what the policy is for linking to information in another language. I am asking because I think that most of the information available on a company such as XDK, or even on Huizhou University itself, is likely to be in Chinese, rather than English. Is it acceptable to use Chinese sources for the English wiki? Is there a specific protocol to follow in such a situation? AndreGallant (talk) 20:10, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Someone trying to restart last year's edit war[edit]

Over the last few days, several edits (4) were added that presented biased, improperly sourced materials and which removed previously agreed upon material. The edits are the same as those that caused a huge amount of discussion last year, and a small edit war that was eventually settled by a moderator who semi-locked-down the page. Apparently the one-year lock-down wasn't enough, as the vandal seems to have returned and restored most of his/her incorrect information without first discussing it or explaining themselves. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AndreGallant (talk • contribs) 15:11, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@User 59.41.252.229: The Chinese Ministry of Education calls (Pinyin) Huizhou Xueyuan a "Provincial undergraduate university", and refers to it as Huizhou University on official documents. The source for this is the very first reference on the page (http://www.moe.edu.cn/ewebeditor/uploadfile/2012/03/06/20120306092426358.xls) This issue was settled over a year ago.
Same with the issue regarding the study of students' attitudes: the study has "students' attitudes' right in the title, and isn't focused on whether attitudes were positive or negative, but rather on whether Japanese assistance changed pre-existing attitudes. Again, this was settled over a year ago on this very page.
Finally, your new section on 'Teaching staff controversies' is extremely negative while only using as a reference public internet forums and Panoramio/Scribd. Please do not add improperly sourced materials to the page. AndreGallant (talk) 13:09, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The section "Teaching staff controversies" should not be readded to the article unless reliable sources can be cited in line with Wikipedia gudelines. Improperly titled photo and Poorly Sourced Writing[edit]

To whoever keeps posting this picture (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/06/Huizhou_University_compound.JPG/220px-Huizhou_University_compound.JPG) as an image of the "Huizhou University Compound", please explain (1) why you are referring to any part of this university as a compound, and (2) why you think this picture is of a university campus, or compound (as you've been calling it). It is a picture of a dirt path, some knocked down trees and shrubs, and a building seen off in the distance. A quick Google image search makes it clear that this is not any significant part of Huizhou University's campus. Please stop adding it.
I also removed a line from the Students' section of the page, as it used a public message board (where one person posted several similar opinions under various names) as the sole source. AndreGallant (talk) 00:36, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agree on both points with AndreGallant. Neither item belongs in the article, particularly the "reference" to student views, which is a commercial site deemed unreliable under Wikipedia guidelines. Please do not reinsert.  Philg88 ♦talk 04:51, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
