Large portions of this text are lifted entirely from the sources it references, and without quotation marks to indicate that the words of the article are not that of the person who "wrote" the article. This is badly in need of a re-write.

Well, perhaps you could tell us what they and suggest improvements. 92.19.244.6 (talk) 12:18, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A great deal of the text was added by me a few years ago, and I don't accept that that is a fair criticism. I'm perfectly aware of what plagiarism is - it means copying without attribution - but at the same time Wikipedia content is inevitably going to resemble the content from which it was derived, particularly if one is striving to render the content as accurately as possible. It is not possible to paraphrase every single word and phrase, nor is it necessary to "attribute" stuff with quotation marks unless the [source] writer is clearly guessing or editorialising.Paulturtle (talk) 02:13, 14 February 2017 (UTC) Often on Wikipedia one comes across cases where an editor has written in vague or inaccurate terms about something with which he is not wholly familiar, so that one reads it and thinks "hang on, that's not quite right". Writing by transcribing the contents of a good book or three is, I think, generally preferable. The second and third books will flag up points which one did not get quite right from the first (e.g. one's own inaccurate paraphrasing of something which the first writer did not discuss in any great detail) and by the time one is on to the fifth or sixth book on the same topic one is coming across interesting points of detail but the incremental changes get smaller and smaller.Paulturtle (talk) 15:25, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
