Untitled[edit]

This page should be linked to the Page Act of 1875, our nation's first immigration law. This page should indicate that Rep. Page was the author of that act. Someone ought to check to see what role he played in the enactment of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, also.Edarrell (talk) 19:04, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced Claim[edit]

I have placed a “Citation Needed” tag on the following, which appears in the article’s lead:

“Page was among a faction of congressmen who openly used racist ideas to defend their positions.”

This is a strong and personally damaging claim, one which should have a form source to cite. Also problematic is the face that the statement itself implies that there were others among his peers who used such language, and that this is a well-known fact. It seems inappropriate to make such a claim, or to imply such a thing, without a citation, especially in the article’s lead. He does have a documented history of legislation relating to immigration that casts a negative light on his legacy, which is well documented and referenced with citations in this article. That does not prove the above statement (about openly racist talk) to be true. I propose removing the one sentence I’ve quoted and upon which I’ve now placed a maintenance tag. Interested editors are invited to weigh in here before that sentence is removed. Go4thProsper (talk) 21:14, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
