I am convinced that Horace Dobell was baptised on 1 January 1828 but that he was born on a different (earlier) date in Gloucestershire, not in London. The baptismal record is: Newgate St., London, Eng; Collection: Dr. William's Library; Nonconformist Registers; Date Range: 1815 - 1832; Film Number: 815924. I can find no record of a birth - no doubt because strongly nonconformist families (as the Dobells were) did not register via their parish (C of E) church but used periodic trips to (for example?) Dr William's Library to deal with baptisms since pre-1836 there was no state registration process.
