Missing location information

"152 km (94 mi) from Kolar Gold Fields, 46 km (29 mi), 181 km (112.46 mi) from Mysore, and 46 km (29 mi) from Dharmapuri"

Please add name of location which is 46 km from the falls, currently missing in the introduction.

Etymology[edit]

The word Hogenakal is formed of two Kannada words hoge and kal. When the water falls on the rocks it appears as if hoge (smoke) is emanating from the top of the kal (rock) because of the force of the water, hence Hogenakkal (smoking rocks) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Balajimcat25 (talkcontribs) 07:08, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Google Maps cannot be used as a source. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 17:25, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If Google map cannot be used as a source, then on what source basis Hogennakkal falls is located in Tamilnadu? Could you please share source with public so that we can take it forward.Karthick1980 (talk) 18:39, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • This has been asked and answered, Karthick1980. The best of the given sources is the Britannica. Not all of the others are accessible, but the Britannica is reliable. Drmies (talk) 16:58, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So google map proof is the only reliable and available concrete proof which clearly mentions that Hogennakkal falls is located in Chamrajnagar District, Karnataka. Please change it accordingly as you don't have any right to defy the proof and update articles as per your knowledge.Karthick1980 (talk) 18:27, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drmies, I've found the source from karnataka Gov't http://chamrajnagar.nic.in/distprofile/dtmap.html, Please have a look at the map provided by electoral of India, where it clearly mentioned Hogenakkal falls is part of Chamrajnagar district,karnataka.Karthick1980 (talk) 19:41, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

this is getting incredibly silly, you are changing to something that conflicts all sources including EB, the law ministry etc to your reading of an unclear map (which actually has the disrrict boundary outside of the river. Please stop this.--—SpacemanSpiff 20:31, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Since I'm now probably on the border of being involved with this article (owing to the recent activity), I might as well cross it and hopefully end this mess once and for all.

I think that it should be listed as 'on the border'. A lot of evidence is shown above that is belongs to Tamil Nadu and also that it belongs to Karnataka. The border passes through the middle of the river as suggested in most maps. It is also controlled by both states. Therefore it should be listed as either 'on the border between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka' or given as 'Tamil Nadu and Karnataka'.The Mathlete (talk) 11:38, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Hogenekkal falls not located in Tamil Nadu, its also a part of Karnataka. As name mentioned its purely a part of Karnataka state. The river Kaveri bifurcates Karnataka and TN from this falls. Nandakumar2007 (talk) 06:57, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not doneAll reliable sources (some listed in article and here) are to the contrary.—SpacemanSpiff 08:54, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I chose not to open a new discussion topic but rather put my remarks on the last active thread. River Kaveri demarcates boundary between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for a long stretch. Both states have historically had disputes around their claims on the water as well. Hogenakkal is one spot right on the borderline of two states and hence all confusion. I had the chance to visit the place actually two months back and I understood the topology only after the locals explained that main entry point of the falls + park is in Tamil Nadu (for visitors/tourists) and the other side of the fall opens up in Karnataka (you have to take a boat and circle around to see this part as it is strong upstream and a rocky bed). I have pictures of the waterfall on both sides (yes - there are multiple waterfalls cutting out of the rocks, not just one), which I intend to upload soon and link to the article. Location should rightly be both the states, but fear not - I don't intend to take it on me to do this :) and invite wrath !! Devopam (talk) 11:48, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
