Gas Chambers[edit]

Which of the components of IG Farben made the Zyklon B gas used during the holocaust? Was it Hoechst? BASF? CJ DUB 02:21, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, it was neither Hoechst nor BASF. Zyklon B was invented in 1922 and patented in 1926 for the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Schädlingsbekämpfung mbh", a subsidiary of Degussa and later IG Farben, too. It was produced by the "Dessauer Werke für Zucker-Raffinerie GmbH", another subsidiary of Degussa and IG Farben, and mainly distributed by the independent company "Tesch & Stabenow". --EvaK 10:36, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

The section about the company's history is incorrect. It was founded in 1863 as "Teerfarbenfabrik Meister, Lucius & Co." and changed its name some years later to "Teerfarbenfabrik Meister Lucius & Brünig". In 1880 it became a stock company "Farbwerke vorm. Meister Lucius & Brünig AG". For the international market the name was simplified to "Farbwerke Hoechst AG". Until 1925 the Hoechst AG was independent. The IG Farben, founded 1916, was only a pressure group of Germany's chemicals industry to gain industrial power during WW I and afterwards. The Hoechst AG was one of its co-founders. In 1925 the IG Farben turned form a pressure group into a the well known conglomerate and was spilt up in 1951 into its founder companies. So the Hoechst AG was not founded in 1951, it was only a re-foundation. --EvaK 11:11, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
