Naval operations volumes also carry the title "Official History of the Great War Based on Official Documents by Direction of the Historical Section of the Committee of Imperial Defence."

I'm probably going to doodle some detail about the production of the OH and rewrite or compress the Travers-Green section so as to use as much as possible for the general narrative rather than as an example using 1917 part II. Keith-264 (talk) 16:13, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New scans[edit]

@Keith-264: You might like to know that it looks like a big tranche of new scans has made its way onto the Internet Archive. I guess someone at one of the digitisation programs realised that since this is all Crown Copyright stuff it's happily fallen into the public domain? Anyway, I've added updates to most of the ones I could find.

Other than volumes which weren't properly published, we seem to have pretty good coverage of the main series. From the land section, we are now missing only France 1918 vol 3, Gallipoli vol 2 (there's a copy but it's weird and may be incomplete? so haven't linked it), all of Egypt/Palestine, and Italy. In the orders of battle, we have all of the original series except 3B (second volume of New Army divisions). War in the Air has everything except Vol VII (appendices) and War at Sea has everything. I haven't gone through munitions or medical properly.

I've also turned up some digitised copies of the map volumes from the main series, which I haven't linked - they're in the main citation block as eg "accompanying Map Case" so there wasn't an obvious place to add URLs.

@Keith-264 I've added two more - the missing Italy volume plus "Casualties" from Medical (so now you can find out just how many men got chicken-pox in France in 1917, I pity the civil servant who had to write all that up...). Still some gaps, but getting there.

IA also has what looks like all of the History of the Ministry of Munitions series but I have not yet added them to the main page - the ordering seems a bit complicated and I didn't want to mess anything up. They are vol 1 & 2, 3 & 4 5 & 6, 7 & 8, 8 & 9, 10, 11, 12. Andrew Gray (talk) 18:04, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ministry of Munitions[edit]

It seems to me that the History of the Ministry of Munitions is neither part of the History of the Great War nor produced by the Historical Section of the C.I.D., so maybe it's time to find somewhere else for the volumes listed for that section? Possibly Ministry of Munitions? Otherwise any departmental official history could be listed on this page which would be inaccurate and make it even longer. —Simon Harley (Talk). 05:50, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's a fair point that it's a history and official but not necessarily part of the official history but official documents about this are contradictory. I wouldn't object to the material here being duplicated elsewhere but for the sake of completeness I want to keep it in. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 07:16, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I had a look in Wells, N. J. (2011). Official Histories of the Great War 1914–1918. Uckfield: Naval & Military Press. ISBN 978-1-84574-906-4. The British histories are listed from p. 49 to p. 79, which includes the MoM histories from page 73 to 79. Not conclusive but he's a RS. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 11:59, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
