2006 comment[edit]

This page is just recently created. Some of the material is from Swan River Colony, including most of the section on European exploration. I think that section is more appropriate on this page (but just me is not a consensus). I have included quite a few references, but more may be needed. It is still incomplete, especially into the 20th century. Gazjo 05:56, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Perth1964.jpg[edit]

Image:Perth1964.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Article Rewrite[edit]

I felt that this article was lacking focus and that too much of the content overlapped the articles on the History of Western Australia and the Swan River Colony. Moreover it contained too much incidental detail on matters that constitute separate articles in themselves and could be linked to for further information. In my mind the primary focus of an article of this kind needs to be the historical development of the spatial characteristics of the region, with reference to political, cultural and economic matters only as they relate to that. I have removed content that was too general, or which did not directly relate to the history of Perth - for example, early European exploration and general Aboriginal history in Western Australia.Adondai (talk) 01:28, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Aboriginal History[edit]

This section was too unfocused on the Aboriginal history within the Perth, metropolitan area. It contained both overly general information, and unnecessarily specific. I have tried to rework it to relate to the Aboriginals living within the site of the future Perth, and show the significance of their land based on their activities. People can find out more by going to the the main article on aboriginal history in WA.Adondai (talk) 02:48, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Aboriginal hunter-gatherers, cultivation, cropping[edit]

The "Aboriginal history" section says:

... the indigenous Noongar people were ..., hunting and gathering. ... The ground they cultivated, ..., the native plants they cropped ...

(Note that I recently added] the hunter-gatherer link.)

The use of the terms "cultivated" and "cropped" (links not in the article) do not appear to be consistent with "hunting and gathering". "Hunting and gathering" implies that they did not "cultivate" or "crop", but instead just gathered what was already there. Am I misreading something? Should we use different words? Mitch Ames (talk) 06:10, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think the problem here is the source of the referenced text "cultivating" and "cropping" is applying a meaning consistent with hunting and gathering, but which when used here does not seem to be. By all means change it if you want. Adondai (talk) 10:24, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
