The editors have put a lot of hard work into providing a detailed and expansive article on a massive topic - well done! The article still will need more work to reach GA, however. Since these changes will take time to make, I am quick-failing the article for now. This will leave contributors more time to make the changes as their schedules permit. Key suggestions are as follows:

  • Much of the article is under-supported with citations. There are "citation needed" flags from as far back as 2009.
  • The references do not follow a consistent format. It would be best to use templates for the citations. Also be sure the in-text citations in the notes section are consistently formatted.
  • Consistently use N-dash for number ranges and M-dash for dashes to break up sentences.
  • Have a complete copy-edit done. There are incomplete sentences, grammatical errors and other issues in the article.
  • Use Webcite or another website archiving service to archive the urls used in this article and remove any dead links.
  • Some of the later photographs are most likely still protected by copyright because they would enter public domain 70 years after the artist's death. If the photos were taken in the 1930s, there is the assumption that the artist died shortly after taking the photo. We need to know who took the photo and when they died to ascertain if the photo is no longer copyright protected.
  • The headings and subheadings should not contain links. Instead, links to the "main article" below the heading should be used.
  • When wikifying: links should be provided once on the first usage in the lead and once on the first usage in the body only; repeated linking of the same word is discouraged. Also do not link the names of countries.
  • Many of the image captions are overly long and lack citations for the new content some of them contribute.

Thank you and good luck. Lemurbaby (talk) 04:14, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
