Location of ground[edit]

The statement "half-a-mile from Dundee railway station" is problematic. Firstly there was no one Dundee railway station at the time the club existed. The two largest - the North British Railway's Tay Bridge (the current Dundee station) and the Caledonian's Dundee West were beside each other, but the third Dundee East, was slightly further away. However all were considerably more than half a mile away from the area now known as Menzieshill. If it is the same area, then I would think this is more likely to be a reference to one of the suburban stations on the Dundee and Newtyle Railway, possibly Lochee West railway station, then known as Camperdown. I've double checked the source and it doesn't say which station it refers to. All it says is Grounds, private, Menzies Hill, Dundee, 1/2 mile from station. That could potentially be any station in Dundee. The only Dundee team in the 1882–83 Annual which stipulates the specific station is Strathmore which has 5 minutes walk from West station. All the others are just "from station" (or "car terminus" in the case of Dundee East End). Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 21:21, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, possibly then it would be best to de-link and just say to the nearest railway station as there is no guarantee it relates to what is now Dundee railway station (ie what was then Dundee Tay Bridge or the North British Station as it was often called). Indeed in 1882/83 I think it would be less likely to be used as a point of reference as following the collapse of the first Tay Bridge in 1879 meant it was the least used of the 3 city centre stations until the second bridge opened in 1887.
