About Ranks...[edit]

Dear editors, It happens me to be a grandchild of a late gendarme - Enomotarchis-. I concern myself in writing, so I try to make some things clear about Greek Gendarmerie but there is not much information especially in my language. I have many questions unanswered. In the article you have two panels with the ranks of the force. The first one shows the insignia until 1935. But, I think there is a mistake since I have several photos of my granfather to declare that the two stripes on the sleeve signify the rank of 'Ypenomotarchis'. In one of the photos my grandfather, then Ypenomotarchis,two stripes- is surrounded by other officers that all have one stripe on their sleeves.... They are certainly just 'Chorofylakes', policemen, with one stripe. In the entry one stripe signifies 'Ypenomotarchis',instead of just chorofylakas, two stripes Enomotarchis. I am quite sure it is a mistake, so if you can find a proper, official source then edit it, since I do not want to intervene without it.

One thing that surprises me is that although most of the photos I own have been shot during the German Occupation, the uniforms are old with the insignia on the sleeves. The reason I give for it is that during those years of poverty most of the officers were not given new uniforms untill the end of the war...
