Intro needs simple definition[edit]

The intro needs to be simplified. First sentence should be a description that tells a reader from another country what it is and where it is, without over reliance on jargon or acronyms. Lester 21:27, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it where it is?[edit]

The facility is being built in the middle of nowhere, well out of range of the nearest pub, golf club or housing. Bungendore is a tourist village where nothing more complex than a Devonshire tea is available, Queanbeyan is a hole. Why was it decided that this was the best place to put this facility? (I'm serious - it really does look like a very strange choice).

It needed to be somewhere near Canberra, and the choice of locations was apparantly somewhere in the north-east ACT or just across the border at the current site. I imagine that it being in the Division of Eden-Monaro had a lot to do with the choice of site given that it was announced just before the 2004 election... As a personal note, I don't understand why they couldn't have housed this at Russell in the ACT - Defence has been pretty bad at explaining why it does things. Simultaneous, and very similar, answer:
One answer is: Politics, horse trading and pork barrelling. The announcement of the site was made during an election campaign - the new site was to be the bell-wether seat Eden-Monaro which, of course, the Liberals wanted to be sure of winning.
I have never been able to pin down anything definitive about the choice coming from the Govt.

Where will the HQJOC be situated?
On 3 October 2001, the Prime Minister, John Howard, announced that the new Headquarters would be built in the Queanbeyan region of New South Wales within the Kings Highway corridor near Bungendore.
After additional studies, the location was refined to a location on the Woodlands property, about mid way between Queanbeyan and Bungendore, off the Kings Highway.

Where is it[edit]

This article says it's adjacent to the Kowen district of the Australian Capital Territory, just south of the Kings Highway, about 15 km east of Queanbeyan and 15 km south of Bungendore. No mention of it being in NSW, in fact it sounds from that as though it's in the ACT.

The Australian Defence Force article says Operational command of the ADF is exercised by HQJOC, which is located at a purpose-built facility near Bungendore, New South Wales.

The Chief of Joint Operations (Australia) article speaks of a separate CJOPS position based at the Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQJOC) at Bungendore, New South Wales.

The Bungendore article doesn't mention the HQJOC at all. Andrewa (talk) 23:47, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
