Ruba'i metre[edit]

Although the ruba'i is traditionally said to be composed in the hazaj metre, this must be questioned. The hazaj metre in Arabic goes as follows:

u – – x | u – – x | u – – x

and in Persian:

u – – – | u – – – || u – – – | u – – –

or:

u – – – | u – – – | u – –

Whereas the ruba'i metre goes:

– | – u u – | u – u – | – u u –

or if you prefer:

– – u u | – u – u | – – u u | –

It is obvious that the two metres have absolutely nothing in common. In particular, the ruba'i metre doesn't start with the characteristic iamb (u –) of the hazaj. For this reason, those parts of the article which lump them together as if they were the same must be modified. Kanjuzi (talk) 15:36, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
