Name kanji[edit]

The kanji for Hattori (服部) are completely not what I expected, and neither would ever be pronounced that way in another context, I don't think. I always assumed that Hattori was written as 羽鳥 or something like that, "wing bird" or "feather bird" making some actual sense after all. Is there anyone out there with info and interest in writing a Hattori clan article or something talking about how the original Hattori clan were clothes-makers (服, "clothes", and 部, "department" or "office", or in this very particular context, a clan associated with a particular craft, much like the Abe 安部 and Oribe 織部). Please add descriptions[edit]

For those of us who don't know all the folks named Hattori, a brief description of each one would help narrow down our choices! Thanks, Aristophanes68 (talk) 03:21, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
