Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because this officer is historically important to the Punjab Regiment the Royal Indian Army Service Corps and the Ulster Defence Regiment where he was the first Irish born Commander of the Regiment. He is also remarkable in that he enlisted when blind in one eye. Okay. For the purpose of encyclopedic coverage, the fact he enlisted with a blind eye is not by itself a criterion for inclusion. That's something you mention after notability is firmly established some other way. As for his historical importance to the Punjab Regiment, you need to state in what way he's important. One notability is that he was allowed to enlist when blind however the major factors are this: He was an early commander of the Ulster Defence Regiment and was the first Irish born commander of that regiment. He was awarded the George Medal for personally carrying out a bomb from Gough Barracks in Armagh in 1957 and passed into Irish military folklore as a result. This is an extremely important figure in the history of Ireland and, in particular Northern Ireland. 24 hours with the article and you'll see where I'm coming from.SonofSetanta (talk) 17:44, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Telegraph obit[edit]

I remember there was a Daily Telegraph obit for Baxter that I found when listing the UDR Commanders on the page. I would try and dig that out. It's had some good stuff on his family background and on his GC Kernel Saunters (talk) 13:52, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You've removed the cat for General. Surely brigadier is General Officer rank? They certainly wear staff cap badges. I know about the GM but needs refs for the 1957 action at Gough Barracks, Armagh.
