Norse.vid?[edit]

This term, along with other parts now amended or deleted from this article appear to have been lifted wholesale from urbandictionary.com. This site has self-published content and is not properly referenced so can not be regarded as a reliable source. Its entry for harr does however mention two sources, although full details are not clear and it is not clear if all parts of the entry are sourced from these references and to what extent. It may be a good starting point for the Wikipedia article if the sources themselves are then accessed, but simply copying assertions from urbandictionary and citing supposed sources without checking them is not adequate. The term "Norse.vid" is not used in A Glossary of North Country Words - check it, I've put a link to a facsimile of the book. Urbandictionary possibly implies this is from the OED but no further details are given (edition, page etc.). If the source itself has been accessed, by all means cite it. If you haven't see it and can't confirm the content, don't.

Lastly, the meaning of Norse is apparent but Norse.vid? It appears to be an abbreviation for something, so it would be best to show the term in full; presumably this is listed in the source - another good reason to check the source itself. --Mutt Lunker (talk) 12:00, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
