Untitled[edit]

Well, its now almost 10 years since their 2002 appearance on Dragon's Den, and as far as I can recall, I havent heard them on the radio, seen them on TV, or seen any sign of them in the press since.

So clearly Peter Jones wasted his cash on that one! Mind you, I'm sure he has plenty left. The moral of the story is, I guess....Peter: don't waste your time trying to be "cool". Crazy name, crazy Wiki entry[edit]

This Wiki page was clearly cobbled together by whoever is luckless enough to be saddled with the task of doing PR for this band, but it is in every sense unintentionally hilarious:

Non-existent record deal offers from Simon Cowell and Sony being "dismissed as journalistic invention" by the band? Really? You couldn't make it up. Although clearly someone did...

Feargal Sharkey "cautiously" welcoming the Dragon's Den deal? Wow. What other big names from 30 years ago can be coaxed out of their musical coffins to comment on something totally unrelated to themselves? What, for instance, does Howard Jones think? Or Shakin' Stevens? Perhaps Hazel O'Connor wants her say on the matter?

A new album will be coming out in early 2010. Oh, will it? Well, it's now August, so at this stage a time machine is required to get back to early 2010 to make that prediction happen. And let's be honest, if you had a time machine it might be put to better use by going back to May 5th and warning everyone not to vote for the Lib Dems.

What an absolute pile of tosh this page is. Clumsy talking up of a non-successful band, thinly disguised as a neutral Wiki entry. Self-promotion at its most obvious and very worst.

Quite rightly derided by public and music industry alike, this band do not merit a page on their own but should be briefly mentioned only on the Dragon's Den page as an example of one of the most cack handedly awful attempts by middle-aged millionaire Peter Jones to get down with the "young ones" by investing in a band. Sadly, Hamfatter were neither representative of any section of youth, nor were they a good investment for Jones. The scene of him attending their "gig" in the Dragons Den follow up show, tapping his toes with a small bottle of low alcohol beer in hand and dressed for all the world like Jeremy Clarkson's brother, was a sight to behold, and surely ranks as one of the all time comedy clips ever to be shown on BBC TV.

With the sole exception of being the proud owners of the worst band name in history, this self-deluded group of egotistical middle class goobers have absolutely no other claim to fame outside of the Dragon's Den context. Their rather embarrassing 15 minutes of fame is long gone. Time to delete this entry, me thinks... If that's OK with Feargal Sharkey...

This sounds like publicity material. Would it be off-hand of me to suggest that the primary author of the material as it currently stands is connected in some way to the band or management? Articles should remain neutral. (StevenEdmondson (talk) 17:35, 5 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

I agree. After the huge exposure on Dragons Den their single could only manage 71 in the charts. A resounding flop. No matter what spin is put on how many were downloaded the first day after their appearance. This article is most certainly not neutral. Metafis (talk) 10:28, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The 'previous positive review' from the NME wasn't from an album review, that much is certain. When asked about it's source, Hamfatter's publicist, Chris Goodman, said he 'believed it to be from a live preview' - ie he himself didn't even know. I would therefore strongly advise that this section either be excised or supported with evidence.
