Needs More

I removed this section of the article:

"Hairdressers need to have good qualifications and to be able to be good at the job. Hairdressing includes: Cutting,Perming,Straightening and many more. You will first start off as a trainee and then move your way up to a qualified hairdresser.

"== History =="

The profession may have begun in the latter centuries of the English aristocracy as hair became a big part of their spiritual religion. Dressing the hair was a rich or noble part of one's birthright in the upper classes of England. [citation needed]"

The first part seems like someone's help wanted ad (wtf?) and the second part seems either highly inaccurate or in dire need of expansion and citations. Perhaps some help from the article on barber?

Proposition to merge

With barber. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.150.79.251 (talk) 23:17, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't make sense for Hairdresser to merge with Barber since people licensed as either Barbers or Cosmetologists can decide to be hairdressers. (It would be equally valid to merge Hairdresser with Cosmetology.) I think since Hairdresser is a job that is not unique to a single profession, it should have its own article. Also, the existing Barber article is almost completely devoted to men's hairstyling and shaving. Kaldari (talk) 18:57, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
I agree with Kaldari. When I was searching for "Hairdresser" I was really shocked to find that it was redirected to barber, which is a different occupation, in a way. Barbers work on men's hair. While barber's can be hairdressers, a barber is a male specific service occupation. The history of hairdressing is very lengthy, and encompasses more than men's hair styling and facial hair maintenance. SarahStierch (talk) 17:57, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
I agree with Kaldari as well. If there is a serious reason to merge them, it's not self-evident; 201…, unless you care to weigh in in complete sentences, I'd suggest we don't take the time/effort to discuss this. Better to put our efforts into improving the article(s). -Pete (talk) 19:07, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

The stub has been re-created..

and that may be all fine and good, but it needs a lot more - for one, a section on history. A section on the gender separation may also be needed - has anyone researched the subject? --Palnatoke (talk) 20:19, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Looks like your wish has been granted. Kaldari (talk) 22:09, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Yay! --Palnatoke (talk) 22:17, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
