Other hacks[edit]

Educated hacks are typically expected to show a higher level of education than the regular hacks. A pleasure hack performs in a snaffle, typically with the rider having one hand on the reins. It is expected to be an easy going horse that may not be as elegant as the other hacks. Workouts for all classes may be decided by the judge or the competitor may be given a free choice. It is unusual for judges to ride the horses, but UK judges have done so here.Cgoodwin (talk) 05:48, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. We would say, "higher level of training," not "higher level of education" in the US. ("educated" tends to only apply to people here, with a few exceptions when talking about the training process itself or as a joke) As we call our basic ring-around-the-rosy classes "English pleasure" or "hunter pleasure," I think that makes pretty much all the classes we label "hack" are essentially "educated hack" classes. Over here, the judges never ride the horses, ever. (Would be enlightening if they did, the trainers would throw a conniption fit, and I for one would be immensely amused to see the process!) Other than the short individual jumping pattern called for in Hunter Hack, any workoffs are in groups where the top few animals get called out to break a tie. Individual workouts are confined to equitation classes. Montanabw(talk) 19:53, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
