Perhaps Adler could do with his own page as he was also involved in the One.Tel collapse (and this article seems to be more about him than HIH as such).--Jack Upland 00:14, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Its not clear whether the amounts quoted in the article are quoted in Australian Dollars or US Dollars. I guess Australian Dollars, but it would be nice if it was made clear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.82.120.10 (talk) 15:31, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is a problem we all have. For instance when I read that Hank Paulson structured his fortune to save 200 million Dollars in tax when he went from Goldman & Sachs to the Bush administration, I assumed that must be US Dollars, but it did not say. It is rather confusing that so many currencies have been named Dollar, so we should probably always specify what we're talking about (or ecourage all other Dollar countries except for the US to rename their currency?!) 121.209.49.91 (talk) 02:27, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Forgotten aspect[edit]

Wasn't it convenient that the HIH collapse occured just at the time when Allianz had plans to expand business in Australia. They have largely taken over since then, benefitted from HIH and FAI being out of the picture.

HIH fell over largely because they had bought a dud, FAI. The purchase of FAI went through Goldman & Sachs, who recommended that purchase. A high ranking Allianz manager had changed to Goldman & Sachs not so long before.

If I were a script writer, I would explore how a manager can help his former work mates by, for instance, recommending the purchase of a company which makes the purchaser as well as the purchased fall over - so the work mates in the former company get rid of a rival and take over the market.

No analysis is complete without explaining who benefitted and pointing to the areas where room for manipulating events in someone's favour existed, and name that company. 121.209.49.91 (talk) 02:22, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
