Whitesides/freedom ridge?[edit]

Much of the mid/late 1990s Area 51 internet talk revolved around expeditions (often led by Glen Campbell) to places in the Groom Range that were informally named "whitesides mountain" and "freedom ridge" (names the USGS doesn't recognise, I believe); it was apparently possible to view Groom Lake from there. Do we know the (GPS) locations for these places? And is there any reliably-sourced information about the government moving the boundaries of the restricted area to cover these? I'm only aware of Glen "ufomind" Campbell's writings, which are the very fringe of reliable. Finlay McWalter | Talk 02:09, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to GoogleEarth, White Sides Mtn is the mountain just north-east of the elbow on Groom Lake rd, just before the guard shack. Approximate coordinates would be 37 22'05"N 115 37'45" W. Multiple maps on Dreamlandresort label the ridge just south of the elbow Freedom ridge, but it may just be the name given by Campbell. Here's a copy of an old BBS-transcript of an article that apparently appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune on Oct 17 1993 mentioning the proposed land grab http://www.sacred-texts.com/ufo/hillgrab.htm The Salt Lake Tribune online archive doesn't go that far back, unfortunately.
