Theme tune

I'm pretty sure that there was another theme tune (maybe even two) between "Chicken Man" and the current one. Bonalaw 09:04, 29 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Gonch Gardener

I am pretty sure that Gounch gardener was played by John Holmes - well, actually I know it was.

Imdb agrees with you [1] but it also says that he was sometimes credited as John McMahon which is probably where the confusion has arisen. Tim! (talk) 20:24, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
He was only credited as John McMahon temporarily. This link proves his name is John Holmes, so I've corrected it in the article. 172.159.126.224 18:41, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

"There have been many headmasters of Grange Hill over the years: Mr Sparrow (1974–1978)" can someone fix this up, didn't the show begin in 1978? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.68.40.116 (talkcontribs)

I added the headmaster list from a GH fan site. The headmasters are correct, but I think you're right about the date - he was only in the first series (and never seen, I think). I'll change the article to just list the first year Stephenb (Talk) 08:59, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
hmm, i see. i think 1974-1978 could be kept too as long as a footnote is used to explain it, but IMO either way is fine. also, in that fansite link you posted, it shows 'Mr Starling', but the article says 'Mr Sparrow'. is one of them wrong? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.68.40.116 (talkcontribs)
I'll correct - must have been bird flu :-) Stephenb (Talk) 08:42, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Couldn't Information be added about the 'video game' titles on air at the moment? Does anyone know a link to a video etc?82.47.147.142 11:04, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Wot no Tucker?

I have to disagree that the strongest characters were Zammo and Gonch. The first thing that everyone (old enough) remembers about Grange Hill was Tucker. The article barely mentions him at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.12.219.149 (talk) 02:30, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Have to agree with this. The first eight years − featuring Tucker, Trisha Yates, Gripper Stebson, Roland et al. – are entirely omitted (and no mention of Susan Tully, who went on to Eastenders fame, and a successful TV directing career?) Dave.Dunford (talk) 14:22, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Title card

Wouldn't it be better if the "title card" used was the current one, and not the old one? --GracieLizzie 15:31, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Depends how old you are, I guess :o) --bodnotbod 15:45, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Well the one I'm most familiar with is the one from the mid/late nineties. So I am not really going for the one I'm familiar with, it just seems to what happens in most cases on wikipedia e.g. Doctor Who. --GracieLizzie 15:49, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Mr Hopwood

I've edited that section to give Hopwood's first name as Dan, because that's the name Robert Leeson gives him in the books. I don't recall him being called anything else on screen? AndyB 23:53, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Mr Hopwood's name in the TV series was Stuart, and I have edited the character list accordingly. bidefax 13:39, 27 March 2008 (GMT)

DVD release

At last, the DVD release of this great show. I just hop it's the full episode, not edited. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 78.147.107.142 (talk) 22:25, August 20, 2007 (UTC)

I'm absolutely convinced that the first series of Grange Hill, when originally broadcast, had a different theme tune -- not dissimilar to the South Bank Show music -- but I can't find any reference to it anywhere. The BBC has retro-fitted program intros before (e.g. DVD of Only Fools & Horses series 1 now has the same intro as later series) so I suspect that they "normalised" the intro to GH series 1 at some point. Am I going mad? Is it my imagination playing tricks? Mrstonky (talk) 02:54, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

There's a claim that there are no known plans to release any further series. Where's the source for this? It sounds simply like speculation. Teppic74 (talk) 16:44, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

NPOV

The first three paragraphs of section 3 on the show's history are written from a fan perspective rather than as an objective history of the show. The creation and early years are ignored and the history is discussed subjectively. Pete Fenelon (talk) 14:15, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm afraid I do not agree. While of course I have little control over what others add to the section (now retitled "Series History"), I feel this is an accurate potted history. Yes, there is some opinion therein, ie. the view that Grange Hill was becoming PC in the 1990s, however I have ensured that these comments are attached to "some commentators believe" etc. User:bidefax 17:16, 11 April 2008 (BST)
to be fair, the entire section is a load of old balls. I mean it doesn't even mention Roland Browning lol --feline1 (talk) 22:18, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Comment withdrawn - wrong place. Apologies.]] comment added by 81.157.188.188 (talk) 22:53, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Cutting back on hard-hitting issues...

...is mentioned here, but not that Phil Redmond is very unhappy with that change. He said in this Guardian interview that the BBC had "abandoned what Grange Hill was about in order to attract viewers aged six to 12 rather than its traditional 13-plus constituency, so there's nothing to celebrate". 86.143.48.55 (talk) 14:12, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Someone must put information on the upcoming Grange Hill Movie. Simply type into google Grange Hill Movie to find info on the upcoming title.

End date

I was quite surprised to see the end date for the final series of Grange Hill given as 29 December 2008. This coming Monday (11 August 2008) we will be on episode 16 of 20, and with no broadcast expected on Monday 25 August due to the bank holiday, I have calculated Series 31 will end on Monday 15 September 2008. -- User:Bidefax 20:56, 10 August 2008 (BST)

Makeover

This article is still tagged for maintenance and in particular contains a lot of cruftiness which should be rewritten in a more encyclopedic style, and sourced. I will start this as soon as time allows, but it's the beginning of the school year, so I may be busy. --Rodhullandemu 20:44, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Eric Wallis

Eric Wallis was not deaf - he had partial hearing and as far as I know he did not use sign language. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Darrenjolley (talkcontribs) 11:49, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Episode list?

Should we have an series and episode list? If we do, perhaps in a table like most episode lists are, consisting of the title (if there is one), maybe the Writers, Directors and/or Producers, if known, the original airdate, and a short summary of the series?

There's a summary for every episode on IMDb, which we could use.--The Ultimate Koopa (talk) 20:25, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Mersey TV/ Lime Pictures

I've changed the ordering of Mersey TV/ Lime Pictures reference to make it fit the timings better. The company was called Mersey TV when it took over the production of Grange Hill and only changed its name to Lime Pictures right at the very end of Grange Hill's run.
