Names in the ancestry template[edit]

I am reverting the non-constructive edits to the ancestry template which have no rationale. When first implemented, and during cleanup of articles, names are linked in the simplest form which is generally that prescribed by WP:NC(NT). According to the convention, monarchs (kings and emperors) and their consorts are named in the form Name (Ordinal) of Place, junior members of royal families are named Title Name of Place and those with substantive titles or ruling titles less than king are named Name, Title of Place. This is a consistent treatment and is suitable given that is how the articles are actually named. Charles 03:24, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

Can anyone provide any evidence that Cyril was ever called "HIH The Grand Duke of Russia"? If not, this page should not be located at Cyril Vladimirovich, Grand Duke of Russia. I am going to move to Grand Duke Cyril Vladimirovich of Russia. john k (talk) 05:27, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heads of families usually have title given after their names so as to differentiate from cadets. In the 1938 Almanach de Gotha for example he has his title after his name, indeed so does every head of a family. - dwc lr (talk) 10:48, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm...stupid Almanach de Gotha, making us use such ugly styles. I'll bend to it, though. john k (talk) 12:26, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Maria Vladimirovna, Grand Duchess of Russia which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 06:44, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
