Talk to me of Mendocino (song) Removed[edit]

The song below (by Canadians, Kate and Anna McGarrigle) as indicative of the times it may have been, CANNOT be attributed directly to the Gospel Outreach article as the movement was ALWAYS based in Humboldt (not Mendocino) County...

I bid farewell to the state of ol' New York My home away from home In the state of New York I came of age When first I started roaming And the trees grow high in New York state And they shine like gold in Autumn Never had the blues from whence I came But in New York state I caught 'em Talk to me of Mendocino Closing my eyes I hear the sea Must I wait, must I follow? Won't you say "Come with me?" And it's on to Southbend, Indiana Flat out on the western plain Rise up over the Rockies and down on into California Out to where but the rocks remain And let the sun set on the ocean I will watch it from the shore Let the sun rise over the redwoods I'll rise with it till I rise no more Talk to me of Mendocino closing my eyes, I hear the sea Must I wait, must I follow? Won't you say "Come with me?" Norcalal (talk) 17:42, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Aren't song lyrics copyright? Should they be here? Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:12, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reworked page and removed...[edit]

I spent an hour this morning finding, cleaning or inserting citations to this article. I also removed an entire paragraph which read, "Radiance was an outreach branch of the church that released media in the form of tapes, which featured music and teachings by Jim Durkin and other church leaders. The Radiance Music Restoration Project[1] features "Rediscovered musical treasures from the great revival of the early 70's." I removed this paragraph because I can find no citable link that Radiance is part of this movement other than on its own webpage. Since they are selling stuff, it would seem to self-promotion via Wiki. I also cannot find anything citable about the "Central Message" so I inserted citation tags.Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:12, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removed material added without citation by an anonymous editor. I don't doubt it is a notable place and event in local history, but it is poorly documented. Unfortunately adding personal memories or half-told tales without reference isn't the right thing to do. I wish the anonymous editor would work on providing valid sources for all the other sentences in this story which I have not been able to find, instead of inserting unverifiable material into other sentences.Ellin Beltz (talk) 07:34, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Removed material added to the article which appears to be more conflict-of-interest, advertising material for "Radiance Ministries," as happened above in December. Peacock words like "musical treasures" show a lack of Neutral Point of View. There was (and is) already an external link to the Radiance website where they can describe in detail what they are doing to for material for sale, but it is not notable enough to be given its own section in this page. The references recently added still need formatting, I only had time this morning to remove major punctuation and spacing issues. I also removed duplicate uses of "Jim Durkin" and replaced with "Durkin" after the first accessible use in each paragraph. Standard editing convention removes the first name unless there would be some confusion with another "Durkin." As he is the only one of his surname in the article, I removed the duplicate first names.Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:48, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy[edit]

This is a controversial religious group, and this article doesn't seem to reflect that. At least some of the edits seem to be by Church members, including one that deletes negative information. I don't have much information - I came here to learn why it was controversial. But here are the sources I eventually found to answer my question:
