Birth Name[edit]

Oregon birth and census records verify spelling of last name as "Werschkul." Monkeyzpop 17:32, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks. I incorrectly changed it a week or so ago, using Gabe Essoe's "Tarzan of The Movies," where it is (now I learn) incorrectly spelled with two Ls. Any idea what his middle initial "M" stood for? Sir Rhosis 19:53, 2 May 2007 (UTC
  • No, I don't know what the middle initial "M" stood for. Apparently Scott's birth family called him "Pete." An interesting follow-up to the spelling of his last name: the Baltimore Sun article (and thus all the other papers that copied it) uses the 2-L "Werschkull" spelling, quoting Scott's brother Rayfield Werschkull. However, Scott's brother's name isn't Rayfield, it's Rafield, and the family last name is definitely 1-L "Werschkul." Aside from the census and birth records, a quick check of phone directory listings for variations on the spelling indicates scores of Werschkul's in Oregon (where Scott was born and raised) and only one Werschkull in the whole country. One of the Werschkul's listed in the phone directories is Rafield. So there, Baltimore Sun.Monkeyzpop 04:04, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Year[edit]

I changed the birth year from 1927 to 1926, based upon the linked interview with Scott's surviving family members. Sir Rhosis 19:26, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Photo[edit]

I have a photograph of Gordon Scott and myself, taken on April 20, 1995, at the Knoxville Western Film Caravan, a film festival in Knoxville, Tennessee. Scott was 68 years of age at the time. I will gladly allow it to be uploaded to Wikipedia, and if anyone volunteers, I will send a copy of the photo for upload and use in this article, though it would be nicer to have one of him in his prime during his film career. I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to photo uploading, etc. So, if anyone volunteers, let me know and I will send it. Sir Rhosis (talk) 10:36, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
