Ingredient ratio information

Merge discussion

This article should normally be merged into Aspirin/paracetamol/caffeine per MOS:PHARM, but this might give undue weight to Goodie's Powder there. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 11:37, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

Comments: I have not been involved with the MOS:PHARM (style guide) but if "Goodie's" (Goody's?) is a major player or totally involved there is a direct connection. However, per a discussion here and the "style guide" of using the "International nonproprietary name", even if more generic, is different from "Brands". If there is evidence Goody's should be "merged" it would seem that Prestige Brands would be the far more likely target.

Short of creating a Aspirin/paracetamol/caffeine brand names article, which I found really helpful (and I may look into) when I ran across Ibuprofen brand names. As a brand the name seems to have self-notability (initial observation), as almost every store I go into in the US has them as a point-of-sale system (cash wrap or cash well), and it has been splashed world-wide as a sponsor. My main issue with this article is the advertising tone.

A lack of any "Adverse effects", "side effects", "drug Interactions", or some sort of "warning" section is lacking or intentionally left out, that is in the requested target article. Any such information is important. The article buries a source "Headache Remedy Recalled Over Fatal Tampering", to inline cite, "The company also produced other medicinal products, including throat sprays and throat lozenges.". The end result is "Goody's is good". Aspirin in powder form alone be a good reason for a stomach warning.

This article is titled "Goody's Powder" but is overshadowed (other than primary sources) by Goody's "Race sponsorship". This might be a good title for another article but taking that out would severely lesson any "undue weight" if merged or left stand-alone.

I have not come to the conclusion that a merge is not in order. This article is better sourced than BC Powder which only has two references (also owned by Prestige as well as "BC Cherry" and "BC Arthritis" Formula), that now only contains aspirin/caffeine (no article?) but I remember when Salicylamide (similar to aspirin) was included. I suppose there would be no need for a aspirin/caffeine/Salicylamide article.

Should it be merged? I would lean that "as is", yes. Can it be fixed, possibly. Merging a lot of separate "Brands" (especially under-sourced) to a better parent company article would seem (still initial observation) a better solution. I will have to look closer. Oppose merge on the grounds that the Goody's Powder is about the brand and company history rather than therapeutic use. It's also prominently linked to the Aspirin/paracetamol/caffeine page. As a brand, MOS:TM is the relevant manual of style. Klbrain (talk) 08:55, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
