Article needs clean-up - conflicting content[edit]

This article appears to be conflating information from several different sites. It is unclear which information is referring to which site. More research is required. Issues include:

  • Mitchell Inlet is not in Tasu Sound, it is in Englefield Bay. However, there is also a large historic mine in Tasu.
  • Neither Englefield Bay nor Tasu Sound are in Gwaii Haanas, which is the area that could be said to be under some jurisdiction of Parks Canada. However, there are other historic mine sites in Gwaii Haanas.
  • It is unclear where the Gold Harbour National Historic Site is located. The Parks Canada webpage does not give a location, but says it is by the Haida village of Haina. This is on Maude Island, which is in Haida Gwaii but not near any of the above mentioned sites. There is also a Gold Harbour on the mainland, near Kitimat.

National Historic Site[edit]

I am unable to find much information on the National Historic Site. The only Parks Canada resource I can find is not very informative: https://www.pc.gc.ca/apps/dfhd/page_nhs_eng.aspx?id=55

I found an 1878 record of a "New Gold Harbour Village" supposedly on the west side of Maude Island, which at that time was said to have been only their for a few years, and where people had moved to from the original Gold Harbour in Englefield Bay. The Parks Canada webpage says that the National Historic Site is actually called "New Gold Harbour Area", and it is at the site of Haina, a Haida village that is on the east side of Maude Island.

Location of mine[edit]

The location of the first European attempts at mining gold in Haida Gwaii were in Mitchell Inlet, not Tasu or Gwaii Haanas. This location was called Gold Harbour. I have corrected the article to the right location: https://ojs.library.ubc.ca/index.php/bcstudies/article/download/189369/186940/

Mining camp?[edit]

This is a Haida village site, but I have not found a reference for any mining camp at this site.
