Why is the lyrics being removed & only referenced. All the national anthems articles that I have seen have the lyrics in the article, not referenced, therefore I dont see any reason why this article should be different. --81.152.206.5 21:51, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Kwame Gbordzoe and his quest for government recognition[edit]

Back on 25 December, 2008, information was added to the site that, while useful, is unencyclopedic (basically a call to the Ghanian government to recognize Mr. Gbordzoe as the lyricist). I attempted to edit it down to what should belong in an encyclopedia, a permalink to the page before my edits (including an email link for "inspection of original documents", making me beleive the information was added by Mr. Gbordzoe himself) is here--Canuckguy (talk) 16:20, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong original version?[edit]

When I was growing up in Ghana, we sang words to the National anthem that are neither the original version quoted, nor the current version. They were:

1. Lift high the flag of Ghana, The gay star shining in the sky, Bright with the souls of our fathers, Beneath whose shade we'll live and die! Red for the blood of the heroes in the fight, Green for the precious farms of our birth-right, And linked with these the shining golden band That marks the richness of our Fatherland.

2. We'll live and die for Ghana, Our land of hope for ages to come! Shout it aloud, O Ghana, And beat it upon the drum! Come from the palm-lined shore, from the broad northern plain, From the farm and the forest, the mountain and mine. Your children sing with ancient minstrel lore: Freedom for ever, for evermore!

3. God be with us in Ghana And make our nation great and strong, Brave to defend for ever The cause of freesom and of right. For ever the flag of Ghana proudly flies In distant seas or else beneath our skies. Let peace and fellow-feeling be our might, And may our name be a radiant light.

4. This be our vow, O Ghana, To live as one, in unity, And in your strength, O Ghana, To build a new fraternity! Africa waits in the night of the clouded years For the spreading light that now appears To give us all a place beneath the sun: The destined ending of a task well done.

I sang the first verse of this in the morning as the national flag was raised at assembly at Ghana International School, Accra. Now I can believe that GIS "never got the memo" about the changes in 1960 and 1966, but I doubt they just made up these lyrics! Does anyone know the proper chronology for the various version of the lyrics. The music has remained the same. GrahamPadruig (talk) 21:51, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
