Presumably, this will all be clarified when the film is released. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:15, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Girl TripGirls Trip – Title has changed to Girls Trip. Right now Girls Trip wiki is redirecting to Girl Trip incorrectly Fabianca (talk) 16:26, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Usage seems divided, if anything the older name is still more common. Andrewa (talk) 03:15, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move Teaser trailer from source shows new title for the film as Girls Trip. HENDAWG229 (talk) 04:26, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

This ref was placed after nom's sig, fooling the bot.

Hope it's OK to move it here. Andrewa (talk) 03:15, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:HENDAWG229 (and any others), please place your "vote" above the Discussion header, and discussion below it. This RM started out rather messily, but that's the normal way of conducting these discussions.

Thanks for fixing that... it will make the closing admin's job a lot easier! Andrewa (talk) 01:02, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Repeating one source does not make it any more persuasive. Google News gives fewer than 3000 hits for the new title [1] and more than 50,000 for the old. [2] The official name carries very little weight, and a single source virtually none in view of the enormous number of other sources. Have you any better evidence that the new name has caught on? Andrewa (talk) 09:58, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Andrewa - There are going to be more google hits on the old title Girl Trip since that was the title used when Universal announced the film's release date last year. The new name hasn't just "caught on", if you watch the teaser trailer for the film from the source provided, you will see that the film's new title has officially been changed to Girls Trip. The title has also been changed on BOM and IMDb. Thank you. HENDAWG229 (talk) 22:25, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:HENDAWG229, please read wp:official names, an essay that summarises the relevant bits of the article title policy that particularly apply to this sort of move proposal and to which I linked above, and by all means check what it says with the official policy. The official renaming announcement to which you have twice now linked and which is the only evidence you offer is irrelevant. That's a common mistake, and one the official names essay was written to specifically address.
There may be a case to be made. We do give added weight to recent secondary sources, see WP:NAMECHANGES. But we still need relevant evidence supporting the move, and so far we have none. Andrewa (talk) 05:02, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The WP article The Fate of the Furious was once named Fast and Furious 8 and then just Fast 8... but each time the title of the film changed, the title of the article changed. The title of this film has been changed from Girl Trip to Girls Trip, the title of the the article should be changed as well. Simple as that. Thank you.
