DVDspam[edit]

According to WP:Bookspam (part of WP:ADVERT):

Sometimes Wikipedia sees bookspam, which is the insertion of text mentioning books to call attention to the books, rather than to contribute to the article. This often takes the form of inserting book listings into reference sections although the book is not used as the source of any information in the article. Bookspam is also seen as the addition of books to "external links", "further reading" or similar sections, although the books added do not add any useful and relevant information.

The same is true of the reference to the DVD, Great West End Theatres. Reporting that the Gielgud Theatre is discussed on this DVD contributes nothing to the article or to the reader's knowledge of the Gielgud Theatre, but simply serves to promote this commercial product. No information is listed in the article as being uniquely sourced from this DVD, instead the wikipedia page about the theatre is used to promote a commercial product. There may be any number of commercial products that have references to the Gielgud Theatre - but it is not the purpose of this wikipedia page to promote any of them.

This is not one DVD. It is a 40-part DVD series - one DVD for each of the 40 West End Theatres that vary in length from 42 to 80 minutes each. The series includes a DVD about the history, architecture and mechanical capabilities of the Gielgud Theatre. See Great West End Theatres. The Stage newspaper said that the series: "Promises to be the most definitive guide to Theatreland". (The Stage article) So, it seems to me that this definitive documentary would be of interest to many readers of this article. One could say that it is premature to mention it, since the episode on the Gielgud Theatre has not yet been released, but the mention does not take up much space in the article. See the official website. -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:57, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
