Nationality?[edit]

George Gaynes was born in Helsinki, but I doubt that he is actually Finnish. His mother's brother Gregory Gaye was Russian-born and Gerrit Jongejans must be Dutch. Propably George just "happened to born" in Helsinki. --Tbonefin 17:44, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also Finland wasn't independent until December 1917, so being born in May 1917 his officially Russian. 83.145.242.167 (talk) 13:07, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

the country didnt exist then, but the people did. And he is not a Finn. Norum 23:01, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

American people of Finnish descent[edit]

I will just go on and remove this category as Gaynes should have never been categorized as of "Finnish" descent. He is not an ethnic Fin by any means. His mother was Russian and father was Dutch. Its just he was born in Helsinki which doesn't mean a squat. Norum 23:03, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Retired[edit]

I read online that he said that he was going to retire after he finished his last role in Just Married. It could really be the case, as that movie was nearly a decade ago, and he hasn't done anything since then (as long as that new Police Academy movie stays in production Hell).--75.0.32.140 (talk) 20:44, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dead?[edit]

I noticed someone had entered that he died 2015. I also heard some rumors to this effect, that he passed away early April 2015. Has anyone else heard about this? I cannot seem to find a source in writing however, but that is the word I've received. Holanthony (talk) 21:24, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've also heard about it. That he passed away April 3rd or 2nd but it hasn't been announced in public yet. DrKilleMoff (talk) 16:10, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There's now another posting he died in Feb, 2016. Any proof of this? This is one crazy rumor!! 2602:304:CFD3:2EE0:E42C:7D5E:31CA:82A0 (talk) 23:50, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Birth[edit]

He was born on May 16, 1917 from what source did it say May 3, 1917? ?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.34.211 (talk) 20:11, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The first reference gives his date of birth. - Kiraroshi1976 (talk) 23:47, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There is reason for these two dates. The Russian Empire was using the Julian Calendar at the time of his birth, Russia's Julian Calendar was 13 days behind the normal Gregorian one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.114.185.202 (talk) 23:03, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
