Assume we already have articles for all the specific sites that are classed as GI cancer. Might be best to keep this article more general. Summary style subsections for the section currently called "types" listing key epidemiologic stats, "red flag" signs and symptoms of each. Lesion (talk) 11:19, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think your idea is correct way to go. There will be more umbrella terms as international research identifies further subtypes of what may previously been considered a single condition, or even more subtypes of issues which currently have a few nominal subtypes. This will requiremore generalised introductory articles to explain and outline symptoms, signs, etc, while linking to and may be even referring a more detailed articles for each specific subtype. dolfrog (talk) 13:44, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've been wondering more if oral cancer is generally thought of as a GI cancer. This source: Yamada T, Alpers DH, et al. (2009). Textbook of gastroenterology (5th ed.). Chichester, West Sussex: Blackwell Pub. pp. 603,1028. ISBN 978-1-4051-6911-0 discusses oral cancer when discussing GI cancers in places. Other sources do not mention oral cancer when they talk about GI cancers. The ICD-10 has separate categories for "Malignant neoplasms of lip, oral cavity and pharynx" and "Malignant neoplasms of digestive organs". Lesion (talk) 12:09, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why are these grouped together in one article[edit]

Article seems to be just a summary of about ten more specific articles. Unless there is something in common about the cancers or their treatment (which should be described) why is this article longer than just a 10 line list ? - Rod57 (talk) 00:56, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
