Move?[edit]

This should probably be moved to "Gaisal train disaster" as (a) it occurred at Gaisal, not Gauhati and (b) train disaster seems to be the naming convention, not rail disaster. --Gurubrahma 17:04, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 17:58, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Death toll[edit]

The introductory paragraph of this article states that "at least 290" people were killed, but several other places in the article, including the infobox, claim the death toll is precisely 285.

Which is the accurate number? Is it a contested figure (if so, by who)? What's the best reliable source for this figure?

Requested move 5 June 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved to Gaisal train collision. The discussion reached a consensus that the term "disaster" should be avoided, but no consensus on whether to add the year. (closed by non-admin page mover) ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 19:48, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gaisal train disaster1999 Gaisal rail collision – per WP:DISASTER: "Try to avoid the words disaster, tragedy and crisis because this characterization is too subjective. It is preferable to use specific event names, such as collision, collapse, explosion, outbreak, pandemic, sinking, oil spill, and the like. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:48, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Note: page was moved to 1999 Gaisal train disaster on 3 June 2023 without discussion and was just reverted. Since the current title turned into a redirect and redirects are ineligible to be current titles in move requests, the current title was changed back to the status quo name, "Gaisal train disaster", to fix the malformity for the RMCD bot. Nom may feel free to alter the suggested new title as needed. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 15:13, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
