Needs update[edit]

I'm sure that it's reached orbit (and therefore been redesignatied to GOES-14), but neither the NOAA nor NASA websites seem to have any updates, and I don't see anything in the general news... So, if anyone has any updates, please update the article (and then remove the {{Update}} template).

name[edit]

Shouldn't it be GOES-14 (with the dash)?

Also, I'm not sure that a move is completely appropriate. The other operational GOES satellites are listed in the main Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite page... I thought that this article was specifically about the launch/flight, which would make using GOES-O a more appropriate title (with a link to Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite#Satellites prominent)

  • NOAA only use dashes in the prelaunch designations. I don't understand your other comment. --GW 19:28, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
ah, I see... one of us should edit the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite page for consistency, then (I think that I just changed one instance there to use a dash, actually). Anyway, the coverage about the GOES 1 though GOES 13 satellites is all on the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite page. If GOES 14 has it's own page, why not all of the others? Or, on the other hand, why have a GOES 14 page at all (other then as a redirect to Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite)? I had assumed that the page would stay at GOES-O in order to provide article coverage of the launch and flight to orbit, with the "Main page" for GOES 14 remaining at Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite.

  • The only reason the others don't have articles is because nobody's got round to creating them yet. Unless you see a problem with that, I'll get onto it. --GW 19:48, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem from me. I actually support you in this, and will assist where I am able to do so.
