Article style[edit]

I'm trying to fix the tone, but I seem to have some problems that I can't find what parts are too promotial. The word 'try' is mentioned multiple times. I'm not saying that you're wrong, you have more experience than I have. But a little help pointing out what's wrong would be helpfull --DNAku 20:45, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm no expert either, but you could try reading other articles about similar products for example the original Slackware and comparing the tone with the tone of this article. Sam.

I don't think that the article needs the release dates of release candidates. Such dates are not important or useful, and they take a lot of room. They are not reported in articles about SUSE and Mozilla Firefox although they have such releases. Both are much bigger projects than Frugalware. Also, their articles have more editors, so its more likely that some of their editors understand the style issues. -82.215.243.178 20:58, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article in german[edit]

Just a hint: the german wikipedia article about Frugalware was deleted because the admins of de.wikipedia.org thought Frugalware is not relevant enough for wikipedia. You can find the german article here now.--Haary 22:03, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who develops Frugalware[edit]

Frugalware is developed by a community, so I don't think it is correct to emphasize its founder by mentioning him in the lead section. The lead sections of Gentoo Linux and Debian don't mention their founders or leaders. Compare them to the lead section of Slackware, which mentions Patrick Volkerding. But he is the only maintainer of the distribution.

I removed the text that said that Frugalware is from Hungary. There are Frugalware developers from other countries, too, so you can't say that Frugalware is from one country. 82.215.250.139 19:10, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Overview section[edit]

I think this link could be used as a 'citization' in the overview section. But I also think the whole section is outdated, or better - it should not be called overview, as it describes the reasons the project started, it's not an overview of the current status.


Fair use rationale for Image:Frugalware.png[edit]

Image:Frugalware.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

I feel that you should only create such tables for really popular Linux distributions and projects. For other Linux distributions the tables are overdoing and unessential for Wikipedia. Frugalware isn't a hugely popular Linux distribution.
I have noticed that you have posted your message to several talk pages of articles about Linux distributions. You could get more comments by posting your idea to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Linux, and the comments would be of better quality. I believe your idea shouldn't be weighed for each article separately. The decision and guidelines ought to be more general. 82.203.170.158 (talk) 22:52, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further system requirements?[edit]

Is there any hint on what the minimum system is for this suggestively-named distro? I mean, it's not beyond my current means to put together an i686 compliant rig that has - just for the hell of it - only 4mb RAM (single FPM SIMM and a board that allows single-module running), a 120mb hard disc, and an ISA Hercules card (yay for piles of computer junk in the cupboard)... not to mention a heinously anaemic Cyric 6x86 PR166 chip... or various other spec levels between that and whatever Frugal actually demands, so assuming that it's not possible to combine that spec of CPU with impractically useless other hardware (e.g. "anyone with a i686 chip is going to have at least 233mhz, 64mb, a multi-gig disc and a 3D card!") is a bit careless. 193.63.174.10 (talk) 11:04, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
